News on the SAP Release Strategy
In April 2008 we informed you on the planned replacement of several “old” HCM modules, such as Event Management, by new applications, e.g. Learning Solution. For more information, please also check http://admanus.de/index.php?site=nl-04-2009-4 or OSS-note 953254. Meanwhile, SAP has made a statement on the time frame for these intended releases: http://service.sap.com/maintenance For your purposes, and in plain English, what this amounts to is that HCM-Core will be maintained as usual, as a component of SAP ERP 6.0, until 31 December 2015. Extended maintenance has been assured until 31 December 2017. A few examples for better understanding: The maintenance guarantee until 2015/2017 is actually valid for the entire current capacity planning/ time management, including deployment scheduling, for the “old“ applicant data administration, for organization management, and ... and ... and. It is already clear how the story will end for the above-mentioned “old” modules: they will no longer be maintained. The future of all other HCM components after 2017 is currently under discussion. Another bit of information refers to the planning for the Enhancement Package 5. As the DSAG has already reported, delivery of the EHP5 for ERP 6.0 has been postponed, from October 2009 to June 2010. Please also read http://service.sap.com/releasestrategy. Once there, click on [more....] behind “SAP’s Release Strategy for Large Enterprises”. At the bottom of the text, you will find the sentence “An addendum to SAP’s Release Strategy for Large Enterprises, status July 2009, is available here (Adobe PDF file)”. The PDF’s final page contains the new schedule.
